Our history...

Rio Vista Elementary School is located at 8131 Macoma Drive NE, St. Petersburg, Florida 33702. The school first opened in 1925. It had an enrollment of approximately 50 students with a principal and one teacher. The main two-story building was built the next year at a cost of $34,850. It remained open until 1934 when it finally had to close because of low enrollment. The school reopened again and then closed again for a long period of time, at which time the main building became a home for local chickens and goats. Many eagles nested in the surrounding woods during the early days of the school so the eagle was named as the school mascot. The school building was remodeled and reopened in 1950. The adjacent 15 lots were purchased for $2,992 to allow for expansion. Today Rio Vista has 10 buildings, 30 classrooms and an enrollment of almost 500 students from all around the world.
